ATLANTA, Dec 07, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) —— The American Medical Association is on record in favor of importing more prescription drugs —— but with conditions.

　　The resolution adopted by the AMA's House of Delegates includes the condition Congress give federal regulators the resources to ensure "authenticity and integrity" of medicine that comes into the United States from abroad.

　　The step puts the powerful AMA's lobbying clout behind federal legislation aimed at clearing the way for importation of prescription drugs, the Chicago Tribune reported.

　　So far, the FDA has blocked importation, citing safety concerns. Despite the federal policy, several states have set up programs to safely import prescription drugs. Opponents of importation are skeptical importation of foreign drugs would lower prices.
