NEW YORK, Oct 28, 2005 (UPI via COMTEX) —— Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh researchers say they have developed a series of tests to better predict Type 1 diabetes or juvenile diabetes.
Better forecasting of those most likely to develop Type 1 diabetes could lead to a vaccine or cure for this life-threatening illness, reported the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Friday.
"There's a major effort under way to test new therapeutic strategies to delay the onset or prevent the development of Type 1 diabetes," the study's lead author, Dr. Massimo Pietropaolo, said at an American Medical Association briefing Thursday in New York. "Our research will help us to identify those individuals at risk of developing the disease who could be eligible to participate in these trials."
